The Immortal Rules

Close your eyes and imagine a world completely ruled by vampires, well that's Allison Sekemoto's world. The Immortal Rules takes place in the far future, when over half of the human race has been wiped out thanks to this pesky disease called the Red Lung Virus. The vampires have stepped up and built huge cities throughout the world. Allison (Allie) lives in the fringe- the outermost circle of a vampire city named New Covington. She is an unregistered, which means that she doesn't have to give blood to the vampires that live in New Covington every two weeks like the registered people do. Sounds pretty good hugh? No. In exchange for being a vampire's blood bag, you get food, shelter and a job. Since Allie is unregistered, she doesn't get any of those things. Allie has to fend for herself everyday, sometimes eating things that even a rat wouldn't eat. But she does have her gang- Rat, Stick, and Lucas- who look out for her. They all camp out in an abandoned school. One night, Allie finds a huge food stash, but the only problem is, it's in a moldy old house outside the protective walls of New Covington. What's the problem? You may ask. The problem is that outside the walls of the vampire cities, there are rabids- insane vampires that have been infected with the Red Lung Virus themselves. You really don't want to run into one, 'cause they'll tear you apart in a heartbeat. When Allie finds this food stash, she immediately alerts her gang. Eventually, she convinces them all that the need to go get that food ASAP, even if it does mean going outside the city walls at night. They all escape through hidden sewer tunnels and fin the stash. Then something goes horribly wrong, it gets too dark, too fast. Allie has to watch her friends get torn apart by rabids, and eventually, she gets taken down by a pack of them as well. Suddenly, a vampire named Kanin comes and he gives Allie a choice, she can either die, or become a vampire. Allie's survival instincts kick in and she chooses to become one of the monsters that she's hated since she was a child. Kanin becomes Allie's teacher, and he teaches her everything that Allie has to know about being a vampire. One day, Allie and Kanin get separated and Allie can't go back to New Covington. Lost, and alone, she has to wander outside the walls of the vampire city she grew up in. But not only does she have the sun and the rabids to worry about, Allie also needs blood. What will happen to Allie?! Read the Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa to find out. Genre: Dystopian/ Science Fiction -Victoria
